Top Tips:

When designing and ordering hardback books, there are a few things to keep in mind to get the most out of your investment. Follow these top tips to ensure your booklets look and perform at their best:

  • Ensure Adequate Margins:
Make sure your artwork allows for sufficient margins to avoid important text or images being cut off during the binding process. We will provide you with a spine and hinge template prior to print.
  • Proofread Your Content:
Always double-check for any mistakes before sending your files for print. High-quality design paired with flawless content ensures the best results.
  • Use High-Quality Images:
Booklets are a visual medium, so make sure to use high-resolution images for the best print quality (300dpi or more). Low-quality images can look pixelated and diminish the professional look of your perfect bound booklets.
  • Check Bleed and Safezones:
Ensure your design includes a 3mm bleed to avoid any unwanted white borders or cut-off text. Use our Design Support service, where we will guide you to ‘How to Design' videos and or offer you design support via our experienced team.
  • Print Extra Booklets:
It's always better to have a few extra copies than to run out. There are various set up processes for Hardback Books, so ordering additional copies, saves your having to pay for these set ups again.
  • Understand Binding Options:
For projects requiring a premium feel and long-term use, opt for thread-sewn binding, which ensures pages remain intact even with frequent handling. For short-term or budget-friendly projects, glued binding can be a practical choice.
  • Choose Your Finishes Wisely:
Consider your Hardback Books content and think about how the special finishes available can complement or amplify this.

QuestionAnswer
What is the difference between glued binding and thread-sewn binding?Glued binding is where pages are glued at the spine and works well for shorter books. What paper type is best for my hardback book? The ideal paper type depends on the project's purpose. For vibrant, photo-heavy content, gloss paper works best. For text-rich or sophisticated layouts, consider matt or silk finishes. Contact our team for tailored advice.
